MPK Wroclaw, or how to get around by public transport

Jak poruszać się po Wrocławiu komunikacją miejską?

Ticket prices in Wrocław start from PLN 1.70, but it all depends on the needs of the ticket, we strongly encourage you to choose and buy the appropriate ticket, because a journey without a valid ticket will cost 240 PLN in the event of a check.

As in most Polish cities, prices depend on the tariff – normal and reduced.
You can read about who is entitled to the reduced fare below.

There are 4 types of tickets in Wrocław:

a) one-offs – entitle to a single ride by bus or tram up to the end of the route (loop / depot);

b) temporary – valid for the time specified on the ticket from the moment of its validation;

c) personal – their purchase requires a UrbanCard, so for city visitors it is usually not an interesting solution;

d) bearer – are issued for a period of at least 30 days and authorize the ticket holder to use the ticket.

How are tickets bought? - MPK Wroclaw

From March 8, 2018, in MPK Wrocław, tickets can always be purchased after boarding the bus / tram. New machines are used for this, where tickets can be purchased with a contactless card. After such a purchase, the physical ticket is not printed, and it is encoded in electronic form on our payment card.

You can view the ticket purchase instructions in the video below.

Of course, you can also buy a ticket at traditional ticket machines located at stops, but we believe that this new form of purchase is much more convenient!

How to check the connection of public transport

a) jakdojade.pl

All you need to do is select the starting point and destination, or the time of departure or arrival, and the application will show us the possible connection. We can change the settings depending on whether we want the fastest connection or the least number of changes.

Your starting points and destinations can be both the names of the stops, addresses and the names of specific places.

Attention! We recommend paying attention to the time between changes and assessing whether we are able to pass from one stop to another.

In the photo below you can see the different route configuration options that you can use.

b) Google maps

Select our destination point, then click “calculate route” and enter the point from which we want to start our route.
Select the public transport tab with the bus icon and the time.
We will be shown the possible connections to reach the destination.

In the example below you can see the Google Maps route to our BatogoSpot Towers facility.

Access to BatogoSpot Tumski from the Main Railway Station

The fastest way from the main station to the Tumski hotel is by taking the tram line 8 or 9, getting off at the “Pl. Bema” stop.

The appropriate tram stop at the main station is marked on the map below.

The journey takes about 15 minutes and it coincides with the route that you will have to cover to go for a walk to the Market Square, so you can immediately try to remember the way.

Access to BatogoSpot Towers from the Main Railway Station

Access to BatogoSpot Towers from the train station

To get to our second facility, we recommend taking tram lines 0P or 15.

Go to the stop “Dworzec Główny (Stawowa)” marked on the map below and get off at the stop “Pl. Jana Pawła II”

The journey should take approximately 13 minutes

There are many options for getting there, so we encourage you to check the connection on one of the websites recommended above. The entire journey takes approximately 25 minutes.

Access to the Wrocław Zoo from BatogoSpot Towers Apartments

There are also alternative connections, but as they would require a change, we suggest choosing the above connection.

The journey should take approximately 25 minutes.

Access to the airport from BatogoSpot Tumski

The good news is that in Wrocław we can get to the airport by a regular MPK bus, which significantly reduces costs compared to cities with airports further away from the center. However, this journey from our facilities takes about an hour depending on the traffic and requires a change. There are several possible routes, listed below.

Access to the Wrocław Airport from BatogoSpot Towers

This journey will take us about 45 minutes and if you are read by people who prefer a short walk to transfers, you can take bus 106 a short distance, which will take you directly to the airport. For those who do not like walking, there is also a route with a change.

"Blue trams are running on the rails through Wrocław's hundred streets"

wroclaw.wyborcza.pl

Not everyone knows that it is Wrocław that is the first city in Poland to be equipped with electric trams.

The first tram line was not blue at all, but honey-dark green, another difference compared to the current trams is the fact that it was a horse-drawn tram. The inauguration of the line took place on July 10, 1877 and it was a luxurious service that not all residents could afford. She ran from Przedmieście Oławskie to Szczytniki.

The first electric trams – white-green-black – were introduced to the city on June 14, 1893 and served the route from Grabiszyn to Rakowiec and to
Szczytnicki Park.

Wrocław trams during the war.

Due to the fact that most of the military operations bypassed Wrocław and it was a rather safe city, Wrocław’s trams did not stop functioning until March 31, 1945. In the face of increasing damage related to the attack of the Soviet army, it was necessary to suspend the operation of public transport. On April 2, 1945, the Soviet army launched an attack and Wrocław plunged into a sea of fire.
Despite the enormous damage, the Transport Works of the city of Wrocław decided to resume operations on May 10, 1945 under the new Polish management. Many tracks were damaged, as were depots and overhead lines, so a thorough reconstruction was necessary. The first line started on August 22, 1945 and for this reason it was called “Jedynka”, running from Biskupin to Ołbin.

In 1946 most of the main routes were already passable. One of the most important tasks was the reconstruction in 1947 of the ruined Grunwaldzki Bridge.

But back to the title, where are the blue trams?

In 1948, the Recovered Territories Exhibition was held in Wrocław in the Centennial Hall. The event was a motivation for the city to expand the tram network, and the carriages prepared for the event were painted blue.

The color did not last long, because from 1954, at the behest of the Minister of Municipal Economy, all public transport vehicles were painted red. It was only in 1971 that the Provincial National Council decided to restore the blue color, which has remained to this day.

Currently, we have as many as 21 tram lines in Wrocław, and the entire network is one of the oldest and largest in the country with a total length of almost 90 km (approximately 200 km of tracks).

Batogospot Apartments are a great choice for those mobile ones due to the underground garage, as well as for those who appreciate blending in with the big city life. Our location at Ostrów Tumski and Towers is located in the city center and has great access to public transport. Batogospot Apartments will therefore be a great choice for people without a car, but who appreciate the ease of getting around the city.

How to plan your stay – weather in Wroclaw

The weather in Wroclaw is a surprising weather phenomenon. Wrocław is one of the warmest large Polish cities. If you have already decided to go to Wroclaw, it is worth choosing a date that will suit your plans and needs.

In the graph above you can see the average weekly temperature in the city.
The weather in Wroclaw is warmest in July, but before you book a stay in BatogoSpot for July, it is worth noting that it is also the month with the highest rainfall during the month. It may happen that the weather will not be good for our entire stay. The fact is, however, that summer rains are usually intense, but short, so we can always wait out the rain in some pleasant place, which Wroclaw is full of.

June and August are slightly cooler than July, but also less rainy. June is also the sunniest month with the longest days, so in our opinion it is the perfect time to enjoy the city’s nightlife as well.

And for all those who prefer to avoid the holiday crowds and heat, which can be bothersome for some, we recommend May and September. Both are characterized by lower temperatures, but also less rainfall. Hence, a stay in the second half of May or the first half of September can be a bull’s eye.
However, we do not discourage all winter lovers from visiting Wrocław, because the temperatures are usually not so severe and the winter offer of the city satisfies everyone.

Wroclaw has a very large offer of gardens, parks and even forests, which can be a perfect choice on nice days. Below are some of our suggestions.

Pergola with a Multimedia Fountain

It is a very charming place that offers shelter from the sun under a 640-meter long Pergola covered with grapevines.

An additional attraction is the Multimedia Fountain, in the summer you can admire its shows every hour on the hour. The show is different every hour, with different musical styles, so it is necessary to go more than once.
